...Planetarium Music
Planetarium Music is a music / audio collage project started by myself, Alex Bundy, in 2000. Its modus operandi is to explore the genre of psychedelic electronic music that started in the mid '70s with predominately German artists such as
Klaus Schulze and
Tangerine Dream, and carried on from the '80s on by artists such as
Robert Rich and
Steve Roach. This type of music is commonly associated with planetariums. The genre appeals to me because at its best it borders both on saccharin "easy listening" and on the strange, unusual, and "difficult."

Pieces that I don't feel fit under the Planetarium Music name sometimes get put under the Planet Music name. Planet Music pieces have more to do with planets (such as the earth) than outer space; I really can't come up with a better way to explain this.

I have been fascinated by synthesizer music for most of my life. An interest in punk and synth-pop led me to early industrial bands such as Cabaret Voltaire, which in turn led me to both "experimental" industrial music and academic electronic music. I have always fooled around with musical instruments, but didn't start writing and recording music until I became involved in the electronic music program at
Lewis & Clark College and started playing synthesizers in the psychedelic rock band
Yume Bitsu. My time with Yume Bitsu opened up my eyes to the world of psychedelic music and its similarities with (and differences from) other "experimental" musics.
I continue to record music, although most of my energy these days is spent working towards a PhD in philosophy at
UCSB.
